Rajeev Hundoo says about the surname Handoo Handoo is also written as Handu and Hundoo. My forefathers have been writing Hundoo as Surname. This was changed to distinguish them selves from practicing Pandits/Gurus to scholars and who took service other than religion. My Great Great Grandfather Pt. Mehtab Rai Ji Hundoo, a great scholar of Sanskrit and Persian migrated from Kashmir and Joined the Court of Maharaja of Punjab as Minister.

Guru Vittal Udupi Krishna Rao says about the surname Bhat Thanks for the details. My family surname is Bhat and I come from a place called 'Udupi' in Karnataka. By the way Udupi is famous for 'Udupi Hotels'. Bhats use 'Rao' also their surname. My father and grand father used Rao in their names. I would like to know the link between Bhats from Karnataka if there is any with Bhats from Kashmir.

Sundeep Rawal says about the surname rawal I have my doubts.Though for the last 150 years we have been part of the Kashimiri community, the history provides an alternate view. "Rawals" actually hailed from Rajasthan,Marwar being part of Sisodia rajputs."Rawal" was royal title later replace by Rana,Maharana etc. The first titleholder of "Rawal" was Bappa Rawal's (King Of Mewar)father. Guys, if there is some with other views ..do share
