Ashtosh Pahalwan says about the surname Pahalwan Pahalwan is a Kashmiri surname from Manasbal,Safapore. I belong to it, and am surprised someone has put a 'maybe' on it. Kindly correct the above. Ashtosh Pahalwan ..(not the same one as above gentleman Ashutosh Kaul)

R.C.Raina says about the surname Thalachoor There were four famalies of Thalachoor's who lived from Purshyar to Ragunath Mandir in Srinagar. Some one among them had gone to participate in a Mehndiraat function of a neighbour. While he was having his dinner, the lights went off suddenly which was a routine practice in Kashmir. To save his Thal from getting pushed in the darkness, he spread his Fheran over it and waited till the hosts arranged to make aggrangement for light. It is said that when the hall was suddenly lit with lights, people sitting besides this man saw him bringing out Thal from the Pheran. This is how he was instantly nick named as Thalachor.

Rohan says about the surname Sharma Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma(Renowned Santoor Vadak)is himself a 'Sharma' & is a renowned Kashmiri Pandit. 'Sharma' though is a common sirname used by Brahmins in North India however some people whose actual sirname is not Sharma also use it as a sign of common popular brahmin sirname.

Rahul says about the surname kandar Kandar is actually a nickname to Koul family of karan nagar as it is said that there ancestral house situated near a Baker's (kandar's) house. Hence they got this name.

Rahul says about the surname Raina Raina's were mainly kashmiri brahmins whose ancestors had Rajdan as a surname. Concrete evidences as to why & where from this surname came is not known.
