R.C.Raina says about the surname Thalachoor
There were four famalies of Thalachoor's who lived from Purshyar to Ragunath Mandir in Srinagar. Some one among them had gone to participate in a Mehndiraat function of a neighbour. While he was having his dinner, the lights went off suddenly which was a routine practice in Kashmir. To save his Thal from getting pushed in the darkness, he spread his Fheran over it and waited till the hosts arranged to make aggrangement for light. It is said that when the hall was suddenly lit with lights, people sitting besides this man saw him bringing out Thal from the Pheran. This is how he was instantly nick named as Thalachor.
