They belong to the Srinagar Valley and have been living in outskirts of Shankracharya temple since 500 AD( Kashmiri:दर( Devanagari), ڈار( Nastaleeq)), is a Kashmirisurname (kram), found among individuals native to the Kashmir Valleyof India, [ 1 ]as well as Kashmiri émigrés who have migrated to the Punjab, [ 2 ] [ 3 ]a region divided between India and neighbouring Pakistan. [ 4 ]The castename is shared among Hindusand Muslims. [ 5 ] [ 6 ] [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] History and origins The Dharkramoriginates from the honorific given to a village head, strongman or a warlord of a jagir. [ 10 ] [ 11 ] [ 12 ]This title was often used in the 12th century and stayed fashionable up until the 14th century. [ 10 ]In antiquity, many Dhars migrated to Gauda, and a large amount later returned to the Kashmir Valley. [ 13 ]Nevertheless, to this day, there are many Dhars who are found in that region of Bengal. Birbal Dhar, leader of Kashmiri resistance to Afghan rule Meeraji(born Mohammed Sanaullah Dar), Urdu poet-scholar, considered with Noon Meem Rashidas one of the father of modernismin Urdu literature. We are not now proud of being decendants of Shiva but We ar proud muslims.

V. J. Jalali says about the surname kandar Most of the Kandar (now kandru) families are from Anantnag. They don't seem to belong to Koul dynasty as the gothar of Kouls is Datatriya and those of Kandru's is Modhgalye. Rahul seems to be very right as for reason behind the nickname Kandru. However, most of the Kandru's have gone back to their previous caste. Some are changed to Pandita and some to Wazir. But some hardcore Kandru's disregard this change.

Udit Sharma says about the surname Raina many raina's are sikhs but they got converted into sikhs during the time of sikh guru teg bahadur ji.before it they were brahmins.

Nathji says about the surname Bhan Bhan is an ancient Kashmiri surname. I am a Kashmiri Pandit. Sad we were displaced from our native lands. I guess that's how the world goes.

Azhar Awais Rathar says about the surname Bhat i am azhar awais rathar i also belong to the kashmire cast RATHAR i just want to know the complete history of the cast my mailing address is Azharawaisrathar@yahoo.com. i shall be very greatful for this kindness as for as i know that rathars are the "RATH" BAAN of the mughals and then i come to know that rathar and the rathore are the same and it is the off soot of the butt tribe now the question is why they called rathar and onward.

Raj Ambardar says about the surname Ambardar Ambar means a Big Pile and dar in kashmiri means entrance gate thus ambardar means people who had enough and to spare. All Ambardar families have derived from Rainawari Srinagar Kashmir. I also heard Ambardar person was a minister of Maharaja in the past and he seems to be the actual ancestor of all ambardar's as such.This story was told me by Shuban Ambardar 35 years ago and he had a deep information of our ancestor. He also narrated some funny poetry of our that ancestor, One thing was sure from poetry that that ancestor of our was an extra ordinarily Brave.

Ramesh Kumar Miya says about the surname Miya Miya's were basically Kashmiri Brahmin original surname Iickoo. Every year celebrating Tick Chorum. One of the Miya family also lived in Safa Kadal Others at Rainawari in one mohalla called Miya mohalla in Kocha Nidan Rainawari. It is said that one of our forefathers long back was in customs. In kashmiri language miya (meey) is related to collection of custom duty in the form of lagaan. The people in those times were fleeing on seeing meey in their village. This meey changed into Miya.
