Satish Toshkhani says about the surname toshkhani Toshkhani's are basically Kauls. "Toshkhani" actually "Toshakhani" means, caretaker of "Tosha", money. What I have heard from my elders is our ancestors were king's treasurers or something of that sort.

Dr. N. K. SAFAYA says about the surname Safaya Well, this goes without any doubt that the autenticity of these sirnames amongst KP of kashmir being indigenous is far from true ,the fact stands that in IRAN many local pure Iranian families have identical family names like i found one family by SAFAYA family name not individual name also many such family names like RAINA,TOSHKHANI,JALALI,DARBARI,SALMAN,AMBARDARI, etc. and a many more and it appears either we have adopted or they have adopted our family names in the historical less known factual past,as we were ruled by Persians for quiet some time in our medieval past,So this aspect needs a closer look to make us truely believe our ancestral past
