RK Dass says about the surname dass Dass surname is 100% a sub caste of kashmiri pandits. They are inhabitants of Bomi, Spore. If one can see the revenue records of Dass surname, it can be found that they are orginally from pandits surname. It might have happened a nick name of dass might have got attached to some pandit surnames as usual practice in kashmir

Priyanka Kaul says about the surname Sharabi Hi, My Grandma says that her in laws were known as Sharabi too as they were a business family owning wine shops in Srinagar. Do u have any info on other kashmiri pandits with sharabi surname/nickname? I'd like to know more about my family tree and origins as we lost our ancestral home etc during the millitancy. Thanks.

Ak says about the surname Raina No its not necessary that Raina's r bRAHMIN. Bcoz my mom is raina fron jammu but shez belongs to sikh family means she is sikh.

Deepak Sharma says about the surname Sharma my father, col. krishan kumar took on the surname sharma, and i have followed the same.my grandfather's name was Pandit durga nath (police officer,settled and died in sialkot,pakistan] and my greatgrandfather's Dr.Bhagwandas (personal physician to the then maharaja of j&k). we belonged to kashmir but unfotunately there are no elders to refer to regarding my original surname. iam requesting your website to try and find out the same.
