Bhat is a Brahmin name. It is found all over India, but is mostly a Saraswat brahmin name, which means that at some point, the male with this surname was originally from Kashmir and then this surname came to be used by his progeny, even though he may have married with other indians. Therefore also found in U.P, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Bengal and Karnataka. Comment was made 13 years ago

Leela says about the surname Moza
Supposed to be short form of "Mozaz" which is a Hebrew word that means "Great/Respected" but also is of course the name of the hebrew prophet Moses. Over time, the "z" in mozaz came to be cut out and it was shortened to just moza. Comment was made 13 years ago
Fotedar says about the surname Fotedar
Fotedar is a mix of Persian-Arabic and means a "keeper of jewels". So it is basically denotes a "Treasurer" in the Royal Courts. A lot of KP surnames are Persian-Arabic and Afghan (Pashtun) in origin. It has absolutely nothing to do with any animal part....As a fotedar, I am not sure why you would even think that! Ambar Jailkhani says about the surname jailkhani
Jailkhani surname is a direct descendant of the Kaul Surname. My Fathers (& hence my) surname is Jailkhani. My Grandfather wrote his surname as Kaul.
The "Jailkhani" surname is rather rare, & I personally know of only 4 or 5 other families with this surname.
We were not the first Jailkhanis, as one of our cousin families also uses Jailkhani as their surname from much earlier.
Not sure how this surname came into being, but sounds recent.
Wonder if all other Jailkhani's are of Kaul origin ? Comment was made 14 years ago
