Jamsheed Rasool Dar says about the surname Dhar well I think dars are ethnically kashmiris. I am a Muslim dar. Dars are comparatively braver than people of other castes. even in pandits i have seen dhars are a far braver people then other pandit castes.

Chandan Sharma says about the surname Bhat Bhatt's are Prominent Brahmin from ancient time . For your reference you can take example of any sanskrit book written by Aryabhatt,van bhatt, Panini,gaga bhatt, kumaril bhatt . No argument on this whether their origin is kasmir or any where else. They were always part of different kingdom thats the reason u can find them every where in india. Later when muslims came some of them changed their religion like any other caste. That's it be cool :)

Sid says about the surname nagri Im a Kaul....that too with an "A" I understand that it can be written or pronounced with an "o" as well But im still not convinced abt how we got this last name Kaul is derived from the sanskrit word kaula which may be lord shivas jatta and its english translation means : well born ....i think im expecting something more concrete

Rahul Dhar says about the surname Dhar All Dhars are basically from kashmir. The oldest KP Dhar being Shri Meeru Pandit Dhar who was the commander of Army of King Sikander from 1389 to 1413 AD. Almost all present Dhars are his descendants.

Mazhar Butt says about the surname Bhat @ Dr Ayushman Bhat Those street singers whom you purport to be Bhatts are not Kashmiri Pundits at all. They are called Bhands and belong to an inferior ancestory. It seems they have adopted the name Bhat to stay in equivalence with the higher Kashmiri caste Bhat or Butt. I am not sure about other Bhats in Karnatka or East Bihar and very much doubt them being the real Kashmiri Bhats or Butts. Only a DNA test can perhaps reveal their actual hereditary or caste.

Chandan Sharma says about the surname Sharma Sharma is vry common surname which every brahman can use , but a lot of kashmiri brahmans are also have the same surname "SHARMA", But it doesn,t mean tht only kashmiri brahmans can use Sharma , A non Kashmiri can also be a Sharma. As i am a kashmiri Brahman and i use Sharma as my surname . but a lot of my frnds who are not kashmiri are also useing the same surname .

Daleep Sabni says about the surname Sabni some sabni's shifted to lucknow some 125 yrs back ,they had printed book on sabni clan ,who shifted to lucknow. but not available with me now , can any of sabni make it available.
