Abdul Basit Mir says about the surname Bhat I am a Mir from both father's and mothers side. Our ancestor were Kashmiri Pandits and converted to islam during time of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani. My grandfather Gulam Rasool Mir told me that that lot of Kashmiri pandits who became muslim used Mir as their surname.

Sharika Prashad Dembi says about the surname Dembi Dembi is a nick name the Koul family got from the place of an island (demb) where the Koul got settled at Mengan Mohalla, Kralyar, Rainawari Srinagar Kashmir . Even today some of this family has retained Koul as their surname where many has taken the nickname Dembi as their surname .

Rajinder Singh Raina says about the surname Raina The Raina or Reen who are originated from POONCH Distt. of Kashmir are originally not Brahmins they were brought here frm Punjab(Farmers/Yodha's) by Raja Ranjeet Singh to increase his power at Northern Frontier where the Muslim population was High. The Fact is this the Language of Poonchi Reen/Rainas is more similar with Punjabi than that of Pushto.
