V. J. Jalali says Most of the Kandar (now kandru) families are from Anantnag. They don't seem to belong to Koul dynasty as the gothar of Kouls is Datatriya and those of Kandru's is Modhgalye. Rahul seems to be very right as for reason behind the nickname Kandru. However, most of the Kandru's have gone back to their previous caste. Some are changed to Pandita and some to Wazir. But some hardcore Kandru's disregard this change.

Rahul says Kandar is actually a nickname to Koul family of karan nagar as it is said that there ancestral house situated near a Baker's (kandar's) house. Hence they got this name.
