Ashish Kaul says The word originated from the kashmiri for ball(wooden)"beera" and some families in Rainawari were known as beera's.These families still follow the surname.
Rakesh Beera says BEERA'S is not a surname but a knick name which means a wooden ball which was used in kashmir to play with. Actual Surname of Beera's is Kauls. Beera's were only in Rainawari Srinagar, but with the passage of time most of them switched over to kaul'again . There is only one family which still keep there identity intact.
