Dawood-Ebrahim Akhoon says I was always told this Surname is Arabic. Ergo, my great uncle before he passed away told me as far as he can recall that the original Akhoon's who migrated to the Far East came from Iraq and were islamic teachers. Also it should be noted that a variation of the work Akhoon is in ancient arabic,, and in that context it meant brother, and it applies in the sentance " A Muslim is Brother of another Muslim".
