Deepak Razdan says Manvati was used as a standard weight in Kashmir. Government used to levy a tax of one manvati of the rice on the tenants and an official employed to collect this tax was known to people by the name of Manvat. His descendants also lost their original family name and the nickname Manvati became their surname
